Can dogs eat rice?
Ask your vet about your own pet. This page is general information from the sources below.
Rice is only for small amounts, or in certain forms, for dogs. The only opened source on rice is VCA's bland diet page: plain cooked white rice is part of an old home diet for upset stomachs, but VCA says that mix is short on more than 10 essential nutrients and now prefers vet diets. So rice is a short-term thing only under a vet's guidance, not a regular treat.

Why
The only opened source on rice is VCA's bland diet page: plain cooked white rice is part of an old home diet for upset stomachs, but VCA says that mix is short on more than 10 essential nutrients and now prefers vet diets. So rice is a short-term thing only under a vet's guidance, not a regular treat.
How to serve it
Plain cooked white rice, only if a vet suggests it.
Good to know
Rice is mostly known as part of a vet-guided upset-stomach diet, and VCA says that home mix is missing many nutrients, so it can't be a regular meal.
Watch for: Fried rice and seasoned rice often contain onion or garlic.
Already ate it?
If your pet ate a lot, or you are worried, call your vet. Say what was eaten, how much and when, and have your pet's weight ready.

For the children
"Rice is only a tiny treat for dogs, and only a grown-up decides how much."
A job: Be the label reader. Before a grown-up shares any food with the dog, check this page, and ask a grown-up if the food is not on it.
This page is general information from the sources below, not veterinary advice. Your own vet knows your dog. Dogs differ.
