Is this plant safe for dogs and cats?
Ask your vet about your own pet. This page is general information from the sources below.
The ASPCA keeps a list of plants that are toxic or non-toxic to dogs and cats, and Pet Poison Helpline adds more. This page searches 96 houseplants, garden plants, cut flowers and herbs from those lists. True lilies are the one to remember: for cats they are an emergency.
Checked October 29, 2026.
Lilies and cats
True lilies and daylilies can cause kidney failure in cats from a tiny taste, even pollen or vase water. If a cat may have touched one, call a vet or a poison line right away.
