Is a reptile a safe pet for my child?
The CDC says reptiles and amphibians can carry Salmonella germs even when they look healthy, and that children younger than 5, adults 65 and older, and people with weak immune systems should avoid contact with them. Wash hands after any contact, and keep reptile habitats away from kitchens and food. Ask your pediatrician before choosing one.
